  20.  You are reading the README.TXT file distributed
  21.  with the Tasks, Projects, & People (TPP)
  22.  evaluation system. This file tells you how to get
  23.  started in the installation of TPP. If at any time
  24.  you would like telephone assistance, call at

  28.  PatriSoft has been producing computer software
  29.  since 1986 with over 20,000 customers using using
  30.  our products. TPP is our latest Windows Personal
  31.  Information Manager Software. PatriSoft products
  32.  have always been known to be unique in their
  33.  extensive user interface flexibility. Where
  34.  commercial products provide limited sets of basic
  35.  functions that appeal to the mass market basic
  36.  user, our products provide advanced features to
  37.  let you get more usefulness from your software.

  39.  TPP provides the basic capabilities of all PIMs in
  40.  a no-nonsense business format. Our displays are
  41.  clean and nice, but not cute. In addition to the
  42.  basic features you will find that TPP keeps
  43.  uncommon information about tasks and projects. For
  44.  example, it tracks when you enter tasks into the
  45.  system and when they were completed. This kind of
  46.  information can then later be reviewed in
  47.  analyzing the work habits of yourself and others.
  48.  TPP lets you manage the tasks of others by
  49.  tracking tasks by resources. In addition to
  50.  keeping your own task list, you can track what you
  51.  have asked others to do and be notified when their
  52.  tasks are due to be complete.

  54.  I am getting ahead of myself now, but wanted to
  55.  let you know a little bit about the system before
  56.  you get started. Included is an extensive help
  57.  file to teach you about TPP operation and give you
  58.  ideas how to use it. We hope you find this
  59.  evaluation informative and useful. As a PatriSoft

  73.  Tasks, Projects and People Executive PIM was two
  74.  years in the making. This is a mature, complete
  75.  PIM.  TPP is outstanding in its ability to manage
  76.  task lists and projects. It's people resource
  77.  capabilities let you track tasks for yourself and
  78.  others. In addition to keeping track of tasks, you
  79.  can log notes about people, track personal
  80.  information and more. Great for Managers! Tasks
  81.  may be organized individually or as projects. Each
  82.  task tracks over 30 fields, recording complete
  83.  status and historical tracking data. Alarms,
  84.  Automated Alerts, Schedule reminders and Priority
  85.  sorting add to its value. Includes to-do lists,
  86.  Address Book/Dialer and more. PatriSoft has been

  180.  About this distribution file...

  183.  TPP is distributed as a compressed file within
  184.  another compressed file. This format is designed
  185.  to let you extract the compressed system with
  186.  installation instructions first, and then proceed
  187.  to install the system after you have had a chance
  188.  to examine its contents.

  190.  Assuming you have uncompressed the original
  191.  distribution file into a new empty work directory,
  192.  you should now have the following files available
  193.  to you:

  195.  VENDINFO.DIZ
  196.  ------------
  197.       The file VENDINFO.DIZ is an industry standard
  198.       description file containing extensive
  199.       information about TPP. VENDINFO files can be
  200.       viewed with a word processor or can be read
  201.       by a computer to extract information about
  202.       their associated contents.  CDROM
  203.       manufacturers, bulletin boards and online
  204.       services use VENDINFO to capture information
  205.       about products on their system. It contains
  206.       the following information and more:
  207.  
  208.           Product descriptions (multiple formats)
  209.           Information about Patri-Soft
  210.           Product Pricing
  211.           Techncial Support information
  212.           Copyright statements and SYSOP/VENDOR statements
  213.  
  214.       You may view this file with NOTEPAD under
  215.       Windows.  The odd, unreadible, data at the
  216.       end of this file is maintained for automated
  217.       computer readers and should be ignored.

  222.       This is another industry standard that
  223.       predates VENDINFO.DIZ. It simply contains a
  224.       bulletin board type description of TPP. You
  225.       may also view this with notepad or any other
  226.       word processor.

  231.       The file you are now reading. This file can be
  232.       viewed in Windows Help format by double-clicking
  233.       or Running the README.HLP file also in this
  234.       directory. View this file with any word processor

  240.       A Windows Help file containing the README.TXT
  241.       information in a Windows Help File format. It
  242.       contains the exact same information as README.TXT.

  247.       The compressed TPP system. This .ZIP format
  248.       requires you have a PKUNZIP type software
  249.       decompression product. If you do not have
  250.       this software, you should be able to download
  251.       it from any online service or get a copy from
  252.       a friend. You can contact the PKZIP

  261.  INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
  262.  --------------------------

  264.  Finally, how to install TPP from these files...
  265.  (Note: existing TPP users may install over their
  266.  current system. See later in this document).
  267.

  269.  STEP 1 - Decompress the TPP151.ZIP distribution file
  270.  -----------------------------------------------------
  271.       (You probably have already taken this step
  272.       since you are reading this file)
  273.  
  274.       TPP151.ZIP is the TPP evaluation file you
  275.       will find on CDROMS, online systems and
  276.       bulletin boards. Decompressing it will create
  277.       the following files:
  278.  
  279.          TPP.ZIP
  280.          README.TXT
  281.          VENDINFO.DIZ
  282.          FILEID.DIZ
  283.  
  284.       You are currently reading the README.TXT file
  285.       so we will assume you have completed this
  286.       step. Since we don't know the name of the
  287.       directory you are reading this information
  288.       from, and will need to reference it later in
  289.       the installation instructions, we will refer
  290.       to this directory as "thisdir".
  291.

  294.  STEP #2 - Create a C:\TPPTEMP\ directory
  295.  -----------------------------------------
  296.  
  297.      Create a temporary directory to contain the
  298.      TPP installation files created when you
  299.      decompress the TPP.ZIP file. This directory
  300.      will no longer be needed after the
  301.      installation is complete so use a name that
  302.      will signify this. We suggest the directory
  303.      name TPPTEMP but you may use any name you
  304.      wish.

  307.  ------------------------------------------------
  308.  STEP #3 -  Uncompress (UNZIP) distribution file
  309.  ------------------------------------------------
  310.      Unzip the TPP.ZIP file into the C:\TPPTEMP\
  311.      directory. Depending on your unzip program,
  312.      this may be done in several ways. If you are
  313.      using the original DOS zip program, use the
  314.      following commands from the DOS prompt:
  315.  
  316.          C:
  317.          CD C:\TPPTEMP
  318.          PKUNZIP C:\thisdir\TPP
  319.  
  320.      Where "thisdir" is the directory containing
  321.      the TPP.ZIP file referenced in STEP #1.
  322.  
  323.      When complete C:\TPPTEMP\ will contain over 30
  324.      installation files and you will be ready to
  325.      run a standard Windows installation on TPP.
  326.  
  327.  ------------------------------------------------------
  328.  STEP #4 - Make sure you have Microsoft's VBRUN300.DLL
  329.  ------------------------------------------------------
  330.      VBRUN300 is a Visual Basic support file
  331.      distributed by Microsoft. This file is used by
  332.      a large number of programs downloaded from
  333.      online systems and on CDROMS. It is not stored
  334.      separately with each product file as it is
  335.      300k in size and would needlessly extend file
  336.      download times.  Also, duplicate copies would
  337.      require an extensive amount of space on
  338.      CDROMS. If you received TPP on a CDROM, the
  339.      CDROM most likely has a copy of this file on
  340.      it. See your CDROM index.
  341.  
  342.      Make sure your system contains the Microsoft
  343.      VBRUN300.DLL file in your \WINDOWS, or
  344.      \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Use the Windows
  345.      File Manager to search these directories or
  346.      use the following DOS command to locate it
  347.      on a drive:
  348.  
  349.           DIR C:\VBRUN300.DLL /S
  350.  
  351.      This program will NOT work with VBRUN100.DLL
  352.      or VBRUN200.DLL.
  353.  
  354.      If you cannot locate a copy of VBRUN300.DLL
  355.      on your system you get it from the following
  356.      Sources:
  357.  
  358.         SHAREWARE CDROMS
  359.             If you have any Shareware CDROMS, you
  360.             will be sure to find a copy on the
  361.             CDROM. Check here first as you can
  362.             avoid downloading a copy.
  363.  
  364.         America Online
  365.             Type VBRUN RUNTIME on the search form
  366.             that comes up when you click the
  367.             Software Search icon on the main menu
  368.             of the Windows Forum. Download
  369.             VBRUN300.ZIP and decompress it with a
  370.             .ZIP decompression program.
  371.  
  372.         Microsoft BBS at 1-206-936-6735
  373.             Download VBRUN300.EXE and run
  374.             VBRUN300.EXE from the DOS prompt. It
  375.             will create VBRUN300.DLL
  376.  
  377.         Compuserve - Go MSL and download VBRUN300.EXE. Run
  378.             VBRUN300.EXE from the DOS prompt. It
  379.             will create VBRUN300.DLL
  380.

  382.             Download VBRUN300.EXE Run VBRUN300.EXE
  383.             from the DOS prompt. It will create
  384.             VBRUN300.DLL

  386.         Other BBS systems
  387.  
  388.      If you get VBRUN300.EXE from any BBS, copy it
  389.      into a work directory. Execute the self
  390.      extracting compressed file by typing VBRUN300
  391.      from the DOS promot. Copy the resulting
  392.      VBRUN300.DLL to your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  393.      directory by using the following command.
  394.  
  395.            COPY VBRUN300.DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  396.  
  397.      After you have confirmed TPP is working, you
  398.      can delete VBRUN300.EXE. It is only used to
  399.      create VBRUN300.DLL.

  403.  STEP #5 - Run the Windows installation of TPP
  404.  -----------------------------------------------
  405.  
  406.      From Windows 3.1:
  407.          Select the FILE, RUN menu items from the
  408.          top of the Windows Program manager and
  409.          enter C:\TPPTEMP\SETUP as the program to
  410.          be run.
  411.  
  412.      From Windows 95:
  413.          Press the Windows 95 START button. Select
  414.          RUN and enter C:\TPPTEMP\SETUP as the
  415.          program to run. Press OK.
  416.  
  417.  
  418.      Note: SETUP will ask for a directory name to
  419.            install the final version of TPP. We
  420.            recommend you select C:\TPP\.  We will
  421.            refer to this name in our documentation
  422.            when refering to the TPP directory.
  423.  
  424.      The SETUP program will complete the
  425.      installation.

  433.  STEP #6 - Cleanup the temporary directory

  435.      You may remove the C:\TPPTEMP directory and
  436.      all of its contents. It will not be used
  437.      during TPP operation.

  439.      You may also remove the C:\thisdir\ directory
  440.      you uncompressed the original TPP distribution
  441.      files in (STEP #1).

  443.      You may save or delete the TPP151.ZIP
  444.      distribution file containing your original
  445.      copy of TPP.

  449.  STEP #7 - Start TPP
  450.  ----------------------
  451.      Examine the created Tasks, Projects & People
  452.      Group in the Windows Program Manager or
  453.      Windows 95 Desktop and double-click the
  454.      TPP icon to start TPP.

  460.      Be sure to remember to look at the Quick Start
  461.      help and the Light Bulb button on the main
  462.      screen for quick start information.

  493.          EXISTING INSTALLATIONS:

  496.          You may install the new version of TPP
  497.          right over an older version.  Your data
  498.          will remain intact. Any changes to the
  499.          file formats between the old and new
  500.          versions will be automatically
  501.          implemented.  Please be sure to backup
  502.          your system before installing a new TPP
  503.          version. This will let you return to your
  504.          original version should there be a reason
  505.          to do so.
